Monthly Temperature Dataset for Nigerian States – January 1950 – December 2024
About This Course
About the Dataset
This dataset comprises monthly temperature records for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, covering the period from 1950 to 2024. The data from 1950 to 2023 was sourced directly from the World Bank Climate Change Knowledge Portal, which compiles standardized climate information based on globally recognized reanalysis products such as CRU TS and ERA5.
The 2024 data was simulated using an AI-assisted approach. Instead of drawing from actual satellite observations or model-based datasets, this synthetic extension was designed to reflect the structure and seasonal variation typically found in remote-sensing climate products like NASA POWER, ERA5, and WorldClim. It incorporates realistic baseline temperature ranges (e.g., 24–29 °C) and monthly fluctuation patterns informed by historical climatological norms across Nigerian states. Values were randomized using reproducible statistical sampling, intended solely for illustrative and exploratory purposes.
This combined dataset provides a consistent monthly climate time series useful for analysis, visualization, and modeling applications involving Nigerian regional climate dynamics.
